AMERICA/CUBA - local Church concerned about Cuban migrants held up in central America

Havana (Agenzia Fides) – Bishop Dionisio García, President of the Cuban Catholic Bishops’ Conference, has voiced the concern of the local Church for the situation of thousands of Cubans blocked between Costa Rica and Nicaragua (see Fides 25/11/2015). The Cuban emigrants cannot move because Nicaragua refuses to let them pass through its territory to reach the United States.
Bishop Dionisio García said this in a letter to Bishop José Domingo Ulloa, President of the SEDAC (Bishop’s Conference Secretariat), who addressed the matter last week and called for a humanitarian corridor to be opened (see Fides 25/11/2015).
“On behalf of the Church in Cuba I wish to express gratitude for the concern and material help being offered by the Bishops of SEDAC towards reaching a humanitarian solution” says a letter sent to Fides and published in the diocesan magazine Avana Palabra Nueva. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 03/12/2015)
