Tachira (Agenzia Fides) - Among the many problems resulting from the closure of the border between Venezuela and Colombia (see Fides 01/09/2015; 03/09/2015), some also affect the religious life of the population. The Bishop of the diocese of San Cristobal de Venezuela, His Exc. Mgr. Mario del Valle Moronta Rodríguez, speaking to Radio Caracol, complained of the situation and noted that joint action is required to ensure the administration of the sacraments to children and young people who live in the border municipalities of Ureña and San Antonio, in the Venezuelan state of Tachira.
From the information sent to Fides we learn in fact that many young residents in the Venezuelan area attended the parishes of Colombia also for preparation for the First Communion. Mgr. Moronta said in the interview: "On our behalf, we are reviewing the pastoral plan to see what solution we can give to this and other situations ". He then called on the leaders of both countries to give a quick solution to the issue, and to restore the economic and social relations between the nations. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 23/11/2015)
