Tunja (Agenzia Fides) - The Church in Colombia, through the president of the Episcopal Conference, has asked for clarification on the issue of the peace referendum, proposed by the government of Santos, regarding relations with the FARC guerrillas.
"I hope someone explains what is this plebiscite, and clarifies the context of more than 30 points cited to understand not only the referendum, but other important aspects: explain if the referendum is constitutional and whether it meets the standards of international justice" said Mgr. Luis Augusto Castro Quiroga, President of the Episcopal Conference of Colombia in the note sent to Fides.
The highest authority of the Colombian bishops stressed the importance of the structure of the peace process: "It must be well-founded, on strong bases, one must not leave anything out", he said.
Mgr. Castro Quiroga spoke at the "Congreso Nacional de Planeación", which is being held these days in Tunja, where he gave a speech on the theme "Reconciliation and the construction of social peace".
While experts in national planning propose the integration of regions for the development and protection of the environment, the Church is very concerned about the issues regarding the victims and the post conflict cultural and social context. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 21/11/2015)
