New Delhi (Agenzia Fides) – To carry out a "revolution of mercy" in India, thanks to the daily acts of believers, thanks to special "agents of reconciliation", thanks to the embrace of compassion dispensed to people "wounded by life", to the poor and suffering: in this spirit, explains Cardinal Oswald Gracias, the Indian Church is preparing to live the special Year of Mercy, proclaimed by Pope Francis.
In a letter released to all dioceses and sent to Agenzia Fides, the Cardinal said: "We want to live this Jubilee Year, in the light of the Lord’s words: Be merciful as your Father is. The Holy Year of Mercy is an appeal to the Church to reshape itself as a body not of judgment or condemnation, but of forgiveness and merciful love", notes the Cardinal who is the President of the Bishops' Conference of India.
Indicating the guidelines that the Catholic community in India will follow to celebrate and live this "special time", Cardinal Gracias, remembering the spiritual and corporal works of mercy, invites all believers to "carry out a small daily act of mercy" that will lead to "a revolution of mercy in India". The Church proposes to live prayer and pilgrimages with greater intensity and speaks of "special agents of reconciliation", which can heal the wounds of people who are inside and outside the Christian community. May all its members: Bishops, priests, religious, nuns, catechists, laity, communicators be "missionaries of mercy". During this year the faithful Indians will try, in fact, to spread "the message of mercy", through a specific website where to share events, resources, information, links, documentaries, programs and initiatives in the dioceses and local communities.
