Lahore (Agenzia Fides) - The Franciscans in Pakistan reflect on Francis of Assisi's love towards nature and Pope Francis' encyclical "Laudato Sì": as reported to Fides, this was discussed in a recent meeting organized by the Custody of the Friar Capuchins in Pakistan in Lahore, which was attended by members of the Franciscan families, priests, religious and interested lay faithful. Fr. Clarence Hayat, one of the speakers, remarked that "for St. Francis, the creatures of the world are an integral part of his life and never expressed negative feelings toward any human being, animal or other creatures". "While enjoying the beauty of the world, St. Francis, praised the Creator of the world. One can see the relationship between man and the universe on three different levels: the first is the relationship between God and human beings; the second is the relationship of human beings with other human beings; the third is the relationship of a human being with his own existence".
During the reflection, Pope Francis' encyclical "Laudato Sì" was analyzed in which he launches an appeal "to preserve environment and maintain its magnificence", identifying the environmental issue as a major problem for the world: "If we protect our environment, we protect our lives", stressed the speaker. In this perspective, Fr, Francis Nadeem, Provincial of the Capuchins in Pakistan confides to Fides, "the Franciscans in Pakistan continue to promote the spirituality of St. Francis' Assisi as a herald of the Gospel and as a custodian of Creation".
