Tlaxcala (Agenzia Fides) - On November 14 with a solemn and heartfelt celebration of the Eucharist, the Apostolic Nuncio His Exc. Mgr. Christophe Pierre presided over the closure of the Jubilee Year for the V centenary of the birth of the Blessed Child Martyrs of Tlaxcala: Cristobal, Antonio and Juan. About 40 Bishops concelebrated with the Nuncio. The Bishop of Tlaxcala, His Exc. Mgr. Francisco Moreno Barron, in his greetings at the beginning of the Mass, pointed out that this event is becoming one of the most important religious festivals of the country, because every year the number of faithful increases. "The child Martyrs of Tlaxcala, are martyrs of all of Latin America, because they were the first to bear witness to faith", said the Bishop.
According to the note sent to Fides, before Mass the story of the Child Martyrs and the stages of the process of beatification, concluded by St. John Paul II May 6, 1990 at the Basilica of Guadalupe, during his second pastoral visit Mexico was recalled.
The blessed Children are among the first natives of American ethnic who converted to the Catholic faith.
Cristobal was probably born in the year 1514, Antonio and Juan around 1516, which is why the Bishop of Tlaxcala decreed that in 2015 we celebrate the V centenary of their birth.
They were among the first evangelized by the Franciscans and Dominicans immediately after the conquest. They were cruelly killed by their countrymen because, in the name of the Catholic faith, rejected idolatry and polygamy: Cristobal died in 1527, Antonio and Juan in 1529. Now we pray and work for their canonization. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 16/11/2015)
