Chiapas (Agenzia Fides) - On November 3, the Bishop of the diocese of San Cristobal de las Casas, His Exc. Mgr. Felipe Arizmendi Esquivel, inaugurated a house to welcome migrants. The house will be a reference point for those who cross the southern border and arrive in Chiapas in their arduous journey to the United States.
According to information sent to Fides, during the rite of blessing of the building, the Archbishop pointed out that migration is a global phenomenon and that the population of Chiapas cannot remain indifferent to the needs of those who cross the territory. He added that, although there are in San Cristobal de las Casas some parishes that already take care of migrants, there was need for a more comprehensive support. Mgr. Felipe Arizmendi Esquivel finally stressed that any humanitarian effort "is not for fashion or simply to feel good with others, but it is an imperative of the Gospel".
