Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) - "The Brazilian socio-political reality: challenges and opportunities", is the title of the statement of the National Conference of Brazilian Bishops (CNBB), published on October 27 with the approval of the Permanent Council of the CNBB, that met in Brasilia from October 27 to 29.
In the statement, sent to Fides, the CNBB talks about the crisis the country is currently experiencing: "The deterioration of the political and economic crisis, which involves the whole of Brazil, seems to indicate the failure of republican institutions, which do not find a way to overcome the conflict of interests which stifles the national life and paralyzes all the activities of the country, with no way out".
The Bishops not only denounce the current system, but have launched an appeal in favor of political and social commitment: "The construction of bridges that promote dialogue among all segments that legitimately represent society is a prerequisite to overcome hate speeches, revenge, selective punishment, which generate a climate of hostility and ongoing conflict between citizens and social groups. This behaviour, sometimes fueled by the media and social networks, can further contaminate the hearts and minds of people, with divisions that historically damage our social organization. In view of the 2016 elections, it is the responsibility of all those involved at a political and social level to commit themselves in promoting justice and peace". (CE) (Agenzia Fides 30/10/2015)
