Puebla (Agenzia Fides) – Bishop Rodrigo Aguilar Martínez of the diocese of Tehuacan (Puebla), has firmly condemned the lynching of two men employed by a marketing company, and suspected kidnappers. The crime was committed in the town of Ajalpan in the evening of 19 October. Bishop Aguilar described the incident as "deplorable and tragic" adding that he was deeply saddened that other similar events should be happening in various parts of Puebla.
In the area of Puebla, partly neglected by public security, the people have started taking the law into their own hands. According to information acquired by Fides, in Puebla alone in 2015 there have been five cases of lynching.
"We cannot be indifferent or feel unaffected. We are all responsible for what could happen in the immediate future – we read in the Bishop’s statement sent to Fides -. I urge everyone to re-consider the situation and to admit that it affects us all. We must seek truth and justice, but with humanity and with hearts in which God has made his home". Then the Bishop urges everyone to "embrace the pain of the victims”, to rediscover the truth, to promote justice and secure sufficient guarantees that this crime is not repeated, to “live the process of forgiveness, requested and granted; to live the joy of reconciliation, the source of deep peace ".
