Kinshasa (Agenzia Fides) - The platform of religious denominations of the Democratic Republic of Congo is committed to choosing its candidate for the presidency of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to replace Don Apollinaire Malumalu, who resigned on October 10 (see Fides 12/10/2015).
In their statement the main religions of the DRC, including the Catholic Church, recall that the Presidency of the Republic, in the note announcing the resignation of Don Malumalu, "asked to come together to designate its successor, in accordance with Articles 10, 12, 14 and 15 of Law No. 13/012 of 19 April 2013 modifying and supplementing the Law No. 10/013 of 28 July 2010 on the organization and functioning of the Independent National Electoral Commission and to communicate the name of the person chosen to the National Assembly for approval".
These articles provide for the participation of civil society to the formation of INEC through the designation of their representatives that have to be approved by the National Assembly. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 20/10/2015)
