Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - The recent announcement of dialogue between the Colombian government and the ELN (National Liberation Army) guerrilla group, was judged as a positive sign by the President of the Episcopal Conference of Colombia (CEC) His Exc. Mgr. Luis Augusto Castro Quiroga, Archbishop of Tunja, who said he hopes that this process will be consolidated soon, "for the good of the Country". "The opening of dialogue with ELN is positive news, because they love to talk, but the difficulty is in reaching a serious decision to enter a possible peace process. I hope to publicly hear the announcement of the 'start of negotiations with the Colombian State and therefore to continue to build peace in the country", said Mgr. Castro Quiroga last night, Monday, October 19, speaking on radio Caracol. The note sent to Fides informs that the President of the CEC expressed the availability of the Colombian Church to collaborate so that this peace process will develop with all the guarantees, to help build peace. His statements come almost simultaneously with the news of the agreement between the Colombian government and FARC with regards to the families of the victims: both sides are committed to delivering all the information available that allow to find the bodies of missing persons during this internal conflict that has lasted more than 50 years.
