Chimbote (Agenzia Fides) - During a press conference held at the seat of the Diocese of Chimbote (in northern Peru), Bishop His Exc. Mgr. Angelo Francisco Simon Piorno, confirmed yesterday that on Tuesday, October 13 the exhumation of the bodies of Polish Franciscan priests Michael Tomaszek and Zbigniew Strzałkowski, in Pariacoto will be carried out: "they are all ready to be transferred to the new graves of the Sanctuary of the Martyrs", he said.
On 5 December the ceremony of beatification of the three missionaries will take place: the Franciscan (OFM) Polish Michele Tomaszek and Sbigneo Strzalkowski, and the Italian diocesan priest Alessandro Dordi, killed by the terrorists of the Shining Path on 9 and 25 August, 1991 in Pariacoto and Rinconada (see Fides 09/08/2011; 04/02/2015; 05/02/2015).
The population of Chimbote and the whole valley of Santa are preparing themselves for this event: they will be the first martyrs to be beatified in the diocese and in Peru. Mgr. Simon Piorno has confirmed the will of two of Don Dordi’s seven brothers not to exhume his body, therefore it will not be possible to transfer part of the mortal remains of the Italian priest in Peru for the beatification. Under Italian law the unanimity of the family to authorize the exhumation of a deceased relative is required.
"His Exc. Mgr. Luis Bambarén Gastelumendi, Bishop Emeritus of Chimbote, had gone to Italy to try to convince the two brothers, but his efforts were useless - said the current Bishop of Chimbote - however the process for the beatification continues, because we have some relics of Father Sandro".
