AMERICA/COLOMBIA - Become peacemakers: 400 priests offer the opportunity to receive the sacrament of reconciliation

Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - On 6 and 7 October, in the "Gran Estacion" shopping center in Bogota, 400 priests in the country will offer the opportunity to receive the sacrament of reconciliation to those who want it. This event, which was given the name "Confesatón", is organized within the context of the Jubilee of Mercy proclaimed by Pope Francis, and is held in conjunction with the third edition of the "Cup of Faith."
The Cup of faith (football championship for priests, see Fides 06/06/2015) is being held for the third time, and for the second time in Bogota. In its first edition it brought together 240 priests from 12 ecclesiastical jurisdictions of Colombia, this year there will be more than 400 priests who come from 20 jurisdictions.
As stated in the note sent to Fides, Fr. Elver Rojas, coordinator of the event says that in the sacrament of Penance "the humility of a sinful man encounters the mercy of God, who, as the Pope says, is never tired of forgiving". Furthermore, "it is important to receive forgiveness to learn to forgive those who have trespassed against us. In this way, if forgiveness triumphs over hatred, we become peacemakers".
