Calcutta (Agenzia Fides) - Make space for growth and spirituality for young people; fight against social evils such as human trafficking, abuse against children and women and any other form of exploitation; strengthen the service to young migrants: are some of the commitments undertaken by the Salesian Family in South Asia, who gathered in congress in Calcutta in past days. As reported to Fides, the Congress, organized to celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of Don Bosco, was attended by all groups and orders pertaining to the Salesian Family (religious, nuns, lay people) who discussed the theme "A family and a mission".
At the conclusion of the Congress a "statement of intent" was published to track commitments and guidelines for the Salesian Family in South Asia, an area that includes countries like India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh. In the text of the statement, sent to Fides, the members of the Salesian Family, as "disciples of Jesus Christ and of Don Bosco" reaffirm their commitment to serve the young and to be "prophets of fraternity", dedicating themselves in particular to the poorest young people and disadvantaged, and hoping for an increased cooperation among all orders that refer to the spirituality and experience of Don Bosco.
In addition to the service towards young people, one of the key points of the manifesto is the apostolate of families, with the idea of creating centers of family counseling. "We aim to achieve the goals of our own charisma operating as a single organization at the service of the young and of the Kingdom of God in our region", concludes the manifesto.
