Seoul (Agenzia Fides) - Young Christians of different denominations (Catholic, Protestant and Anglican) met near the border between North and South Korea to pray for peace and reconciliation.
As reported to Fides by the Communications Office of the Archdiocese of Seoul, the young people close to the Community of Taizé in Korea, who made a pilgrimage to the church of Paju (city located south of Panmunjeom, on the 38th parallel, bordering the demilitarized zone), call on young people of all Christian Churches and other Asian countries to pray for peace and reconciliation in Korea.
"Reconciliation has always been the spirituality of our community", explained brother Shin Han Yol of Taizé, main coordinator of the event. "We have been praying for peace in Korea for over 40 years. Since 2013, we thought it would be good to invite the young Christians to join in our prayer". "The pilgrimage - he added - symbolizes a journey, a journey of reconciliation".
In addition to young Koreans, the meeting was also attended by 200 young people from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, Myanmar. "Through prayer, the community hopes to build bridges among different religions and different countries". "Our hope - concluded brother Shin Han Yol – is to pray together with our brothers and sisters in North Korea". (PA) (Agenzia Fides 26/09/2015)
