AFRICA/BURUNDI - The government rejects the invitation to dialogue "with all" addressed by the Bishops

Bujumbura (Agenzia Fides) - "No agreement with those accused of insurrectionary activities", said the Burundian government, rejecting the call for dialogue "without exception" addressed by local Bishops to bring the country out of political crisis following the third term of President Pierre Nkurunziza.
In a message read on Sunday, 20 September in all the parishes of Burundi and transmitted by Radio Maria, Mgr. Gervais Banshimiyubusa, Bishop of Ngozi and President of the Episcopal Conference, had addressed a pressing invitation to "genuine dialogue".
"We have to accept to sit down together, without exception, to diagnose together the disease that afflicts us and find the right remedy", said Mgr. Banshimiyubusa.
"It is necessary - continues the message - that the real actors of the conflict who are fighting for power sit together without delay".
Mgr. Banshimiyubusa stressed that "the situation of security in Bujumbura (the capital) is extremely disturbing" with "people savagely murdered, kidnapped and then killed, tortured or imprisoned arbitrarily".
"Our appeal serves to ensure that there is no one that takes the path of war or prepares what could become a pretext for war", concluded Mgr. Banshimiyubusa. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 24/09/2015)
