ASIA/SOUTH KOREA - Young people on a mission with a smartphone

Wednesday, 23 September 2015

Seoul (Agenzia Fides) - The mission of youth in Seoul proceeds thanks to a basic tool: the smartphone. As reported to Fides by the Communications Office of the Archdiocese, since 20 September, the local Church has organized the "Youth Festival", now in its eleventh edition. It is an essentially missionary initiative, that sees young Catholics travelling the territory of the 35 parishes of the diocese to bring the Gospel to their peers.
This year the mission has used a modern tool, the smartphone: an App was created that, say the organizers, "has added more color and beauty to the Festival".
Young people were contacted and organized meetings and testimonies through the app which also allowed to share in real time, with all the young people connected, impressions, emotions, words, photographs of the mission.
"In Korea - explains the Church in Seoul - the daily life of young people is increasingly linked to mobile devices such as smartphones. The specific application, designed for the Catholic Youth Festival, was also intended to show Young people how a smartphone can have a positive function, can be a useful tool for the proclamation of the Gospel and can also help other young people in difficulty".
The Catholic Youth Festival in Seoul is an annual event that brings together teenagers and young people, with the aim of helping young people to deepen their relationship with Jesus but also to bring other children to the Catholic Church.
"I hope the young people experience God's love through the Festival", says Fr. Lee Seung-min, Director of the Youth Center of Seongdong and Main Coordinator of the Festival. "I hope that young people, touched by Jesus, can become true disciples in the world today". (PA) (Agenzia Fides 23/09/2015)
