ASIA/INDIA - The Andhra Pradesh government assures support to Churches

Secunderabad (Agenzia Fides) - The government of the Indian state of Andra Pradesh assures services and rights to Christian minorities, and the protection of church properties: is what emerged from the recent meeting in which representatives of the Federation of Christian Churches in the state of Andhra Pradesh met Chandrababu Naidu, Prime Minister of the state.
As reported to Fides by a note of the Federation of Christian Churches, Christian leaders handed over a memorandum in which it raised the question of the rights of minorities and Church properties, asking the state not to interfere in administrative affairs of Churches, dioceses and institutions related to Churches, already regulated by the Indian Constitution.
The Prime Minister assured the delegation of Bishops the correct approach of civil institutions, ensuring support to the churches especially in cases where there was the occupation of land and property. The meeting confirmed the good relations between the Churches and the Government of Andhra Pradesh, built on the path of the mutual recognition of legality and the rule of law, conditions for building social and religious harmony in India.
