Caracas (Agenzia Fides) - From 14 to 17 September the 48th National Assembly of the Missions, organized by the National Directorate of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) and the Department of Missions of the Episcopal Conference, was held in Venezuela. As the note sent to Fides reports, the role of the diocesan directors of missions and the establishment of diocesan secretaries of missions was the focus of the work. With the contribution of the participants at the Assembly, it was possible to outline the profile and responsibilities of the Diocesan Director of Missions, on the basis of the General Statutes of the PMS in order to improve the process of missionary animation through the four Pontifical Mission Societies.
The meeting was also attended by His Exc. Mgr. Georges Kahhale, Apostolic Exarch of the Greek Melkites in Venezuela, who during his speech, presented the current situation of Christians in the Middle East, stressing the importance of praying for our brothers. He also reported the various forms of support and solidarity with the Venezuelan people in the Middle East.
Finally preparations for World Mission Day 2015 have begun, which will have the theme: "Witnesses of Mercy", to resume the announcement of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, highlighting the figure of the missionary as "a witness of God's mercy". (CE) (Agenzia Fides 22/09/2015)
