AFRICA/SUDAN - No school for children living in IDP camps in Darfur

Wednesday, 16 September 2015

Nyala (Agenzia Fides) - The majority of children living in the camps in West Darfur do not go to school. The serious problem is in addition to the increase in children who have no shelter. This alarm was launched by the Ministry of Public Education in Sudan during a press conference and highlighted that in this State of Darfur young people between 7 to 15 years of age living in refugee camps do not attend school. Torrential rains have destroyed buildings and there are no funds for reconstruction and maintenance. In addition, the local radio station Radio Dabanga reported that in Sirba a school has recently been destroyed by floods. West Darfur is one of the States of Sudan with the highest percentage of children who do not go to school. Most of these come from nomadic communities or rural areas.
