Concepcion (Agenzia Fides) - "Abortion is not a solution but an act of violence", said His Exc. Mgr. Fernando Chomalí, Archbishop of Concepción to the international press, speaking on the current debate in Chile on the abortion law.
Mgr. Chomalí, in a note sent to Fides, said that "freedoms have limits" and that the bill is contrary to the whole history of Chilean society.
The Church, which represents the voice of the majority of the local population, has appealed to the Country's lawmakers so that they promote correct laws and do not approve the law on abortion.
While the text of the law that will be voted on by Parliament was approved yesterday, and the government continues to campaign in favor of abortion, the Bishops issued a document in which they reaffirm that abortion is never therapeutic. (See Fides 03/08/2015). (CE) (Agenzia Fides 06/08/2015)
