AMERICA/PERU - National Week of the Migrant: Letter of Bishops to 3 million Peruvians abroad

Saturday, 13 June 2015

Lima (Agenzia Fides) - During the celebration of the National Week of the Migrant (from 15 to 21 June), the Bishops of Peru, through the commission for human mobility, sent a letter to all the countrymen who are outside the country or have a family member abroad.
In the message, the Bishops stress that human mobility is a major challenge for society and the Church, "because there are about three million compatriots who are out of our Country, in search of a better future".
Therefore - continues the message - the Holy Father asks us to "promote concrete actions of solidarity with migrants in our ecclesial communities. In addition, the Pope urges world governments to improve their migration policies".
"Dear compatriots who are in different Countries, we encourage you to remain steadfast in the Catholic Christian faith and ask for the protection of the Lord of Miracles, patron of Peruvian immigrants," concludes the Bishops’ message. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 13/06/2015)
