Saturday, 30 May 2015

Jakarta (Agenzia Fides) - "The Lord wants Christians in Asia to live together in common obedience, witnessing the love of God in the world": this is the conclusion of the 14th general assembly of the "Christian Conference of Asia", an ecumenical organization which promotes cooperation among the Christian Churches in the continent. As reported to Fides, the recent assembly, celebrated from May 21 to 28 in Jakarta on the theme "Living together in the house of God" was attended by 440 representatives of Churches from 28 countries.
The assembly reviewed the work of past years and planned the future, reaffirming the fundamental choice of "dialogue" as a form of witness and presence in the countries of Asia. Participants met to discuss issues and emerging themes for the witness of Christianity in Asia.
The new Secretary General George Mathews Chunakara, Indian, expressed high expectations for the assembly and the importance of the message of Christ's love for the Asian countries, noting that "we need dialogue among all religions in order to reduce social tensions among communities around the world."
