Santiago (Agenzia Fides) – The 109th Plenary Assembly of the Chilean Bishops' Conference, CECh, (see Fides 10/04/2015) is being held, which began with the participation of the Bishops in the Third International Seminar on Church Communication entitled "Communicating in the culture of uncertainty". According to the note sent to Fides, during the opening of the Seminar, organized in collaboration with the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and the Duoc Institute (Worker and Peasant University Department), Cardinal Ricardo Ezzati, Archbishop of Santiago de Chile, stressed the importance "of communication in the mission of the Church".
In the press conference on the work of the first day, the Secretary General of CECh, His Exc. Mgr. Cristián Contreras, said that "the Church intends to give its contribution to a more human coexistence" of Chilean society, despite Chile is experiencing "times of suspicion and mistrust". Even further evalutations were expressed about the law on civil unions, promulgated in Chile in recent days, that according to the Bishops "weakens marriage". Mgr. Contreras concluded by saying: "For us, the issue of the protection of life is essential". (CE) (Agenzia Fides 15/04/2015)
