AMERICA/CHILE - Floods force more than 40 000 children not to go to school

Tuesday, 14 April 2015

Santiago de Chile (Agenzia Fides) - A tsunami of mud and floods hit the Chilean Atacama desert region, in the north of Chile, causing deaths, people missing and thousands injured as well as more than 40 thousand children without a school.
In five municipalities in the region there is no drinking water and at least 200 miles of sewer pipes are clogged with mud and excrement.
The situation remains very serious since the overall cost to meet the emergencies that devastated the north of the country will require large sums of money. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 14/04/2015)
