AMERICA/BRAZIL - Mobilization for political Reform and transparent elections continues

Wednesday, 25 February 2015

Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) - The "Coalition for Political and Democratic Reform for Transparent Elections", promotes today, Wednesday, February 25, in Brasilia, three important events for the mobilization in support of the proposed Law of popular initiative and of defense of the Bill 6316/2013, pending before the Chamber of Deputies.
The first appointment, at 8:30 am, will be the meeting of the institutions that form the Coalition to discuss the dates of the mobilization plan, which includes actions across the country to raise awareness and collect signatures for the bill. The second initiative consists of the launch of the "Declaration for the defense of democracy", proposed and signed by the Archbishop of Aparecida and President of the National Conference of Brazilian Bishops (CNBB), Cardinal Raymundo Damasceno Assis, and the President of the Federal Council Order of Lawyers of Brazil, Marcus Vinicius Furtado Coelho. Finally, at 3 pm, a debate with parliamentarians in order to increase the parliamentary support to the initiative will be held. One of the main objectives of the initiative is to undertake a thorough policy reform, prohibiting the funding of election campaigns by companies. One and a half million signatures are needed by the end of February to submit the proposal to Congress (see Fides 07/02/2015). (CE) (Agenzia Fides 25/02/2015)
