Hai Men (Agenzia Fides) – To give witness to the Gospel through the works of charity: is the reason that led to the formation of the "Group of Divine Providence" that offers free health service to Catholics and non-Catholics in the Diocese of Hai Men (Nan Tong), in Jiang Su province, mainland China.
The announcement of this new service, offered equally to all, was given at the end of the celebration of the feast of Christ the King, on Sunday, November 23.
According to information gathered by Agenzia Fides, the diocese sent two nuns to study medicine a decade ago and to give witness of the faith and charity of Catholics. The group is formed by Catholic doctors who have modern technological equipment to carry out ultrasounds, electrocardiograms ....
The Diocese of Hai Men has a long history. The first Bishop was His Exc. Mgr. Simon Zhu Kai Min (first Ordinary of the Apostolic Vicariate of Nan Tong, and then of the diocese, erected in 1946), who was ordained at the Vatican by Pope Pius XI in 1926, with the first group of Chinese bishops.
Despite the shortage of priests and religious women, the diocese has always been very active in pastoral and charitable works, highlighting the presence of Catholics in society. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 27/11/2014)
