Tai Pei (Agenzia Fides) - The Camillian Sisters have been in Taiwan for 60 years to carry out the mission to serve Jesus through the sick, in the footsteps of the founder, St. Camillus de Lellis. The anniversary celebration was held on August 14, during which the women religious renewed their vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, sharing their vocational path, the fruit of 60 years of mission, the promotion of vocations. According to information sent to Fides Agency, in the wake of Camillian missionaries, the Camilliane sisters arrived in Taiwan in 1952, where they opened the first hospital on December 21, 1989 with 35 beds. In October 1997 they opened another health care facility with 100 beds. To respond to social needs, the sisters also opened a center for the elderly, who are the weakest, with 110 beds. The Camillian missionaries were invited to Taiwan by the Administrator of the Apostolic Prefecture of Zhaotong (in the region of Yunnan), the Salesian Mgr. Joseph Kerec. When they arrived on the island they began to work among the poorest people and the natives, opening the first health facilities, always inspired by the spirituality of St. Camillus de Lellis.
