ASIA/CHINA - Thousands of faithful participate in the Eucharistic Congress of the Diocese of Feng Xiang

Feng Xiang (Agenzia Fides) - Thousands of faithful of the diocese of Feng Xiang of Shaan Xi province in mainland China took part in the diocesan Eucharistic Congress, which took place in past days. According to reports from Faith of He Bei, the bulletin of the most important Chinese Catholic world, the lay faithful participated together with 35 diocesan priests and Franciscan religious nuns belonging to different congregations. Some of the most significant moments of the Eucharistic Congress were the long adoration and Eucharistic procession and the recitation of the rosary with prayer intentions for the diocese, for the universal Church and the Church in China. The Eucharistic procession stopped at several points where some temporary altars were erected.
The Diocese of Feng Xiang is divided into four deaneries and 30 parishes, with more than 20,000 faithful, 38 priests (including 18 religious), 60 women religious belonging to 3 women congregations (Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, Sisters of the Sacred Heart and the Little Sisters of Santa Teresa). The diocese was founded as a Franciscan mission and still today the devotees of the Saint of Assisi continue to animate the diocesan life. In the diocese there are two Marian shrines and a cemetery for Catholic priests. The diocese also manages several social service agencies such as clinics and orphanages.
