ASIA/CHINA - The formation of the laity of the province of Zhe Jiang for a better understanding of faith

Hang Zhou (Agenzia Fides) - "To study, learn and apply the Scriptures" was the theme of the course of formation of the laity of the Catholic community in the province of Zhe Jiang, held from July 31 to August 4. According to what was reported by Faith of He Bei, 150 laity, active in community life (especially the Parish) of the 4 dioceses of the province participated in the study "to improve their faith formation and bring the fruits of their study in their own parish." During the seminar lessons on 6 themes were given: knowledge of the Sacred Scripture, the best way to read the Bible, listening to the Word of God with the ear and heart, the teaching of the Sacred Scripture in life, evangelization in the light of the Sacred Scripture.
The Zhe Jiang Province which is located in the southeast coast of mainland China has a population of 47.2 million inhabitants. The capital is Hang Zhou. The province is divided into four dioceses: Hang Zhou, Tai Zhou, Wen Zhou and Ning Bo. According to the official website of the Catholic Church in the province, the community has 69 priests, 47 seminarians, 99 women religious, 175 000 lay faithful, 335 churches and chapels and 5 Old age pensioners Homes.
The Gospel arrived in the land of the province of Zhe Jiang since the Tang Dynasty (618-907). In 1696, Pope Innocent XII established the Apostolic Vicariate of Zhe Jiang naming the Dominican father Alcala as the first Apostolic Vicar. In 1838, the Vicariate was joined to the province of Jiang Xi and entrusted to the Lazarist missionaries. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 08/08/2012)
