Islamabad (Agenzia Fides) - "Democracy is solid in Pakistan, I see no danger of a coup," says to Fides Akram Gill, Catholic politician, until now Minister of State for National Harmony, commenting on the difficult political phase in the country, where in past days, Prime Minister Raza Gilani was disqualified by the Supreme Court. "The democratic and institutional path for the resolution of the crisis proceeds quickly: tomorrow we will have a new Prime Minister, within a few days a new government, which will then receive the trust by the federal Parliament. The country is giving a clear answer. The rule of law and democracy have prevailed, at the expense of those who intended to put the country into chaos " he remarks.
Akram Gill continues: "As Christian leaders, we are living this critical stage with anxiety but with faith, with the rest of our countrymen, because we feel part of the country and want to contribute to the progress and welfare of the nation. We are confident that in the new government there will be the National Ministry of Harmony, which seeks to protect the lives and status of religious minorities." Among the priorities, a new law to prevent forced marriages and forced conversions, phenomena that currently affect and cause suffering to the Hindu and Christian religious minorities.
