AMERICA/MEXICO - Bombing of commercials and propaganda posters, but no-one explains the mechanism of voting

Tuesday, 12 June 2012

Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - Through the publishing of the weekly "Desde la Fe," of the Archdiocese of Mexico, the Catholic community criticized the Federal Electoral Institute (IFE) as it does not explain to the citizens the mechanism of the upcoming presidential elections to be held on July 1. While acknowledging the work of preparation carried out by IFE concerning the days before the election campaign, the places, the employees, the Institute has not however used, as in other elections, the official spaces made available by means of communication to explain the use of cards in order to avoid misunderstandings and errors when voting. Citizens, we read in the editorial of the Catholic weekly, of which a copy was sent to Fides Agency, should understand the mechanisms to be followed when voting very well. According to the Archdiocese, the people have been bombarded with commercials and propaganda posters, but have not received one explanation in detail related to the procedure for voting. "It would be truly deplorable that due to the lack of clear information, many votes are then discarded as invalid for some inconsistencies that could be avoided. Clarity and simplicity are essential, together with appropriate information," reads the text. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 12/6/2012)
