AMERICA/BRAZIL - An Italian missionary found dead in Brazil

Bahia (Agenzia Fides) - An Italian missionary Fidei Donum was assassinated in Brazil, in Rui Barbosa, in the State of Bahia. The victim's name was Father Louis Plebani, 62, born in Rudiano (BS) and in Brazil since 1980 as a missionary priest Fidei Donum. From the few reports received by the local press and sent to Fides, the priest was found hanged in his home.
Nothing is known of the causes of the murder: it is thought that his death was caused by a robbery which then degenerated tragically: the killers seem to have staged a suicide. The priest was expected for the celebration of Mass on Sunday evening, at the mission of the Sisters of Charity, but not seeing him arrive, some of the women of the mission went to look for him and found the dramatic scene.
Fr. Luigi was suppose to return to Brescia for good in summer.
