ASIA/CHINA - Large number of pilgrims to the Marian Shrines in view of World Day of Prayer for the Church in China

Shi Jia Zhuang (Agenzia Fides) - On the occasion of the Marian month, a large influx of Chinese Catholic pilgrims are already visiting the various Chinese Marian shrines in view of World Day of Prayer for the Church in China, indicated by Pope Benedict XVI to be held on 24th May. According to what was reported to Fides by Faith of He Bei, hundreds of faithful of the province of Si Chuan province and the province of Inner Mongolia, met at the Shrine of She Shan, where they attended a solemn Mass, prayed and shared their experience of evangelization. Moreover, the pastor of the parish of Xi Liu, Diocese of San Yuan, Shaan Xi Province, said that on April 27, more than 20 newly baptized went to the Marian Shrine of Hu Xian to receive another "Baptism" because "with the maternal blessing their faith strengthens." In the diocese of Hai Men, Jiang Su province, the faithful are experiencing a moment of intense Marian spirituality in communion with the universal Church, in view of the Day of the Marian Shrine of Lang Shan, always in the diocese, which is celebrated on May 9 . According to the Bishop of the diocese, "there are at least thousands of faithful who continue to arrive every year from all over the country. This year we have had so many contacts from the parishes for their arrival at the Sanctuary. We are preparing ourselves spiritually and materially, our prayer is joined to that of the universal Church for the evangelization of the world, and China."
