Tuesday, 13 March 2012

Tai Pei (Agenzia Fides) - As reported to Fides by the Weekly Catholic of the Archdiocese of Taipei, several dioceses Taiwan celebrated the Lent assessments on the first Sunday of Lent for the catechumens who are preparing to receive the sacraments of Christian initiation (baptism, confirmation and first Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil. More than 200 catechumens of the Archdiocese of Tai Pei, who are attending 25 catechism parish courses, accompanied by their catechists, godparents, and many faithful of the parishes, gathered to "establish the alliance with God" before His Exc. Mgr. John Hung, SVD, Archbishop of Tai Pei and President of the Regional Episcopal Conference of Taiwan. Mgr. Hung advised them: "Always follow the teachings of Christ to fulfill the alliance that God established with you, making you salt and light in the world". The Archbishop gave every catechumen a copy of the book of Pope Benedict XVI "Jesus of Nazareth". Among these catechumens, whose ages range from 7 to 80, there is a whole family of 4 persons, some fathers and children, some sisters, all united by the same vocation: to follow the call of the Lord for new life on Easter night.
In the diocese of Kao Hsiung, Archbishop Peter Liu, Archbishop of the diocese, presided the assessment of the 99 catechumens of the 23 parishes of the diocese. After the ceremony, Mgr. Liu gave everyone a copy of the book "The Sacrament of the Eucharist" as a sign of welcome on behalf of the entire community. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 13/3/2012)
