AMERICA/MEXICO - Missionary Childhood and Adolescence: Bishop invites us to reflect on the situation of children in the Sierra Tarahumara

Tuesday, 21 February 2012

Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - In Mexico, the third Sunday of February DOMINF is celebrated, ie, the Day of the Pontifical Society of Missionary Childhood and Adolescence. In this circumstance, Mgr. Armando Colin Cruz, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Mexico, spoke in his homily about the precarious situation endured by millions of children, both in Somalia and in the Sierra Tarahumara (see today’s Fides): "There are many families destroyed, without the necessities to live: lack of food, health care, medicine, education, many do not even have the peace and serenity to handle all the problems that our world lives."
The Bishop wanted to reflect on these issues, citing the abundance in which other children are living: He also took the example of a six year old boy he met, and had a thousand toys for himself. Then he continued: "How many children are abused? How many attempts are there on against a person’s life and dignity? Unborn children, because death occurs before birth, children who are abandoned by their parents, children who are victims of unhealthy actions."
Finally Mgr. Colin recalled that the Archdiocese of Mexico "is experiencing a special moment, because a pastoral assessment and a review is being carried out due to the 20 years of the Diocesan Synod, to continue to build the foundations that lead us to become a Missionary Church." This Eucharistic celebration was attended by children from eight Vicariates of the Archdiocese of Mexico, that last week had given birth to the XV Congress of Missionary Childhood and Adolescence in the city of Puebla.
