EUROPE/ITALY - Carrying out missionary animation in the heart of a metropolis: 50 years of the PIME centre in Milan

Friday, 10 February 2012

Milan (Agenzia Fides) - For fifty years the "Center of culture and PIME (Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions) missionary animation" in Milan proposes itself as a place of meeting, exchange, reflection and planning in dialogue with the city and the world. In the past, it was marked by numerous initiatives involving multi-level citizenship: from the anti-hunger campaigns that mobilized thousands of people, to the marches led by Mother Teresa, that the PIME in Milan was the first to make it known in Italy. In recent years, in particular, they have taken up some issues with an emphasis on individual responsibility and role as a lever to change one’s life and the world. During this path also the conference to be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 is included, not so much to celebrate 50 years of the Centre, but especially to look ahead, comparing with some important representatives of the cultural and social Milan on the role and potential of a misssionary animation and cultural centre in the heart of a metropolis like Milan, which today is facing new challenges, not least that of multiculturalism. With an open view to the world. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 10/2/2012)
