Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - Deaths caused by starvation registered among the Tarahumara population, who reside in the current Mexican territory of Chihuahua and other places in the country, where 28 million Mexicans survive are not able to feed themselves appropriately due to weather disasters, drought or frost. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), 58.5 million Mexicans suffer from extreme poverty. In particular, this is caused by "food poverty", ie they have nothing to eat. The Consejo Nacional de Politica de Desarrollo (Coneval) reported an increase of 12.5 million poor in the last six years. Social programs do not start when there is real need, but only in times of elections. Currently in the Sierra Tarahumara, almost one hundred suicides are committed due to despair caused by lack of food were recorded. Statistics abound, documents, reports on the situation of famine in which millions of Mexicans living in the Tarahumara and other poor areas. However, there are no initiatives and activities to get to the root of the problem and address it by bringing solutions. Many families miss one or more meals a day. Children go to school with only a cup of tea and with a tortilla spread with beans. Both inside and outside the country there is an increase in the need for donations from civic organizations and the Catholic Church to bring food to the Chihuahua indigenous.
