Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - The Church has the duty to give full attention to the poor through the parish, formation and social services, taking its social responsibility: this is how His Exc. Mgr. John Tong, Bishop of the Diocese of Hong Kong, who was named Cardinal by the Pope on the day of the Epiphany, stressed the need to strengthen the Church's pastoral commitment to the poorest and to society. According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), during a recent Seminar of the priests who work in the diocese of Hong Kong (see Fides 10/01/2012), Mgr. Tong urged all with Catholics values and the Chinese culture of Hong Kong residents, to promote good values in society. "Taking care of the faith of life in society is not only the commitment of the leaders of the Church, but it is a task for all Christians", said the Bishop. Even the other priests who took part in the Seminar confirmed that "Christians can help society to establish the core values to meet the challenges of poverty and division" according to the teaching of the Church's social Doctrine. It is above all necessary that "the Church helps society to promote those values that put the human person at the centre" said Father Renzo Milanese, PIME, who hopes for "a development that focuses on the human person".
