AMERICA/BRAZIL - The Youth Missionaris of Brazil looks to the future

Wednesday, 28 December 2011

Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) - At the end of the fourth National Assembly of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith and Youth Missions (JM), held at the headquarters of the National Directorate of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Brasilia, with the participation of representatives of all states of the country (see Fides 16/12/2011), the National Directorate of the PMS sent a note to Fides with the main conclusions.
Among the various decisions taken, the young Sara Guerra, coordinator of JM in Ceará, will represent the Youth Mission in the Commission for the Youth of the National Conference of Brazilian Bishops (CNBB), in the Southern Cone. From 8 to January 15, Joao Guilherme of Paraná, along with another young man, will represent the Youth Missionaries of Brazil in the Missions in Paraguay, an event that is celebrated every year in this country.
For the 2013 World Youth Day to be held in Rio de Janeiro, some managers have been appointed to start thinking about the missionary aspect of the event. A proposal for the theme of JM and the campaign slogan for the 2013 Missions has been studied: "Youth in Mission" and the motto "Go and make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19), the same as the World Youth Day 2013. The proposal will be submitted to the National Directorate of the PMS. Another important decision was to expand the recipients of the material on the JM: while the first was aimed at young people between 15 and 25, now it will be from 15 to 30 years, adapting to the directions of the United Nations (UN) on the basis of their age group.
The national Secretary of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith and JM, Father Marcelo Gualberto, with regards to the Assembly said: "It was a very positive event, with the participation of many young people as their first experience but with a lot of missionary experience. We lived a very rich experience, with some very valuable contributions, such as that of the Archbishop of Brasilia, His Exc. Mgr. Sergio da Rocha and the intervention of Father Savio Corinaldesi ".
