Lima (Agenzia Fides) – In Ancash, the northern region of Peru, more than 280,800 children are devoted to work and do not attend school. According to the Head of the Child Labour Statistics of the Regional Directorate of Labour, out of 100 children, 26 devote their time to increasing the economic resources to help their families and 45% of working children are engaged in the fields, mainly to graze the animals. This sad situation reflects the state of poverty and extreme poverty that exists in Ancash, respectively 38.9% and 28.5%. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 17/12/2011)
