Yangon (Agenzia Fides) - "We are confident for the future of the country. We hope to continue the path undertaken at a political and social level and we hope to see the fruits in the near future, for the good of the entire nation. We hope the best for the Church and society: we hope for peace and reconciliation in the country " is the statement made to Fides by His Exc. Mgr. Paul Zinghtung Grawng, Archbishop of Mandalay and President of the Episcopal Conference of Myanmar, which expresses the hopes of the entire Burmese Christian community, on the occasion of the visit of U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, in Myanmar, and for the future of the nation.
The Catholic community, through the words of Mgr. Charles Maung Bo, SDB, Archbishop of Yangon, and Secretary General of the Episcopal Conference of Myanmar underlined that "it favorably looks at the current phase of reforms", hoping that the government "invites religious leaders to work together for the development of the country and gives the same protections, rights and opportunities to all religions " (see Fides 24/11/2011).
