EUROPE/SPAIN - Every year 8 million children die from preventable diseases

Monday, 21 November 2011

Madrid (Agenzia Fides) – After 22 years since the Convention on the Rights of the Child carried out by the United Nations, the panorama related to children is still daunting. Every year about 8 million children under 5 years of age around the world die due to preventable and easily treatable disease; not for aggressive viruses such as HIV, but for diarrhea, pneumonia and other diseases that could be monitored. These deaths are the result of lack of drugs, a poor diet and lack of political will. In poor countries, for example, there is a large deficit of qualified medical personnel, drugs, medical supplies and multivitamin food. It is necessary to improve maternal and child care and invest more in different health care areas. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 21/11/2011)
