Tai Pei (Agenzia Fides) - The community of Taiwan is preparing a big party for the 90th birthday of the beloved Cardinal Paul Shan, SJ, Bishop Emeritus of Kaohsiung. In view of the occasion, the Archbishop of the Diocese of Kaohsiung, His Exc. Mgr. Peter Liu, issued a letter addressed to all the faithful, calling for prayer and celebration for such an important figure to the Church in Taiwan. The text reads: "This year our beloved Cardinal Shan turns 90" he has lived 57 years of priesthood so far, 32 years of episcopate and 13 years as a Cardinal. "After being struck by cancer at eighty, he began his 'farewell trip to life' to preach that 'God is Love' in schools, prisons, hospitals, companies .... ready to devote the rest of his life to the Church and to people in need, as he has already done in his life. What a great Love". His work, the Sanctuary of the Beatitudes, which he inaugurated in December 2010, today is a spiritual place and of faith. "How can we thank the Lord because he has given us a Cardinal like him?" Mgr. Peter asks himself, inviting everyone to participate in the solemn Eucharist to be held in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary on November 27, "to thank the Lord who sent us Cardinal Shan and so that the faithful can follow in his footsteps in the path of evangelization". On December 5, there will be a big birthday party organized by the diocese for its beloved Cardinal. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 19/11/2011)
