ASIA/MYANMAR - Appointment of the Rector of the Theological Major Seminary "St. Joseph" in the Archdiocese of Yangon

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Archbishop Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed rev. John Saw Yaw Han, of the archdiocesan clergy of Yangon as Rector of the Theological Major Seminary "St. Joseph " in the Archdiocese of Yangon on September, 16 2011.
The new Rector was born on May 5, 1968 in Homilim, Archdiocese of Yangon. He was ordained a priest on March 18, 1995 in Yangon. He entered the Minor Seminary "St. Joseph" in Bago in 1983, then in 1989 he went to the Major Seminary" St. Joseph" of Pyi Oo Lwin, where he studied philosophy (1989-91) and subsequently went to the Major Seminary "St. Joseph" in Yangon to study theology (1991-95). He obtained an M.A. in theology in New York (2002-2004), with a specialization in moral theology. He has held the following positions: Vice-pastor (1995-96); Missionary in Kyaingtong (1997-98) and Professor at the major Seminary of Pyi Oo Lwin (1998-2000) and the Major Seminary in Yangon (2004-2007), Rector of the minor Seminary of Bago (2008-2010) and then the major Seminary in Yangon (since 2011).
