Thursday, 27 October 2011

Islamabad (Agenzia Fides) - "I am convinced that the meeting in Assisi between religious leaders of the world is very useful as a symbolic and concrete experience: it is the witness that religious leaders can unite and not divide, to contribute together towards a common goal, which is peace and coexistence. I hope that the wind of Assisi blows in Pakistan "This is what Paul Bhatti says to Fides, a Catholic, Special Adviser to the Prime Minister of Pakistan's Religious Minorities Affairs, commenting on the " Day of reflection, dialogue and prayer for peace and justice in the world", organized today by the Holy See in Assisi, where the Pakistani Muslim leader Allama Zubair Abid, President of "Pakistan Ulama Mashaikh Coucil will take part in the meeting".
"For this purpose, and according to the same spirit - Bhatti says - we are planning, for the beginning of 2012, a big inter-religious Congress in Islamabad, with guests from the international sphere, on the theme of harmony and peaceful coexistence. It will be a message of peace to the whole nation".
The Counsellor intends to engage "in inter-religious dialogue, both at a nationally and internationally level, in order to improve the condition of religious minorities in Pakistan. All people of good will need to be united to reach the aim of the common good of the nation". (PA) (Agenzia Fides 27/10/2011)
