ASIA/CHINA - The role of Catholic intellectuals in the life of the Church

Wen Zhou (Agenzia Fides) - "The role of Catholic intellectuals in the life of the Church" was the theme of the 9th Meeting of Catholic Intellectuals in the province of Zhe Jiang held from October 7 to 9 in the diocese of Wen Zhou. According to the information Fides gathered, the Catholic intellectuals were 68 who came from 10 cities and towns of the southeast coastal province of China and participated in the 3 days of sharing and spirituality. There were doctors, university professors, architects, engineers, economists ... Catholics between 78 and 25 years of age. During the meeting they shared the theme "the way of the Cross" and also discussed on evangelization through the media. At the conclusion of the Meeting, on October 9, the Catholics doctors organized a free medical check up for all the citizens.
According to the organizer, "there were hundreds of registrations, but due to our limited organizational capabilities, we could only accept this group. Every year, however, we also try to schedule other types of meeting, at least 5 or 6 times, to make better and more effective the role of Catholic intellectuals in the pastoral and evangelization".
The Meeting of Catholic Intellectuals in the province of Zhe Jiang has now been an annual event for 9 years. It started in 2003, during each meeting that lasts three days, the Catholic intellectuals exchange their experiences of faith and commitment in the life of the Church through prayer, spiritual direction, the pilgrimage, the round table, facing specific issues.
