AMERICA/PERU - A special Mission Day, with the relics of St. Teresa at the headquarters of the PMS and the first "virtual Campaign"

Tuesday, 11 October 2011

Lima (Agenzia Fides) - The Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Peru always celebrate with immense intensity the month of October and World Mission Sunday. This year in particular there is even another reason of joy: the presence of the relics of the Patron of the Missions, Saint Therese of Lisieux in Lima. The relics of St. Therese (1873-1897), who was declared patroness of the missions along with St. Francis Xavier in 1927, from 21 to 23 October will be guarded in the chapel of the national headquarters of the PMS in Lima.
From the note sent to Fides by the National Director of the PMS in Peru, Fr. Victor Livori, we learn that the presence of the relics will be accompanied by prayer vigils, liturgies with the sick, children, youth and missionary families. On Saturday, October 22 during the morning, moments of prayer are scheduled with different groups of the pastoral in Lima, and in the evening there will be a "missionary march" with the relics of St. Teresa, which will start from the location of the PMS to the parish of Saint Rose da Lima, where the Mass will be celebrated for the Evangelization of Peoples. The day will conclude with a Festival of Missionary Song aimed at young people.
This year there is also a novelty for Mission Day: the PMS of Peru launch the first DOMUND (Mission Sunday) virtual campaign. Through Facebook, you can find at Domundperu a page that describes the meaning of Mission Sunday and everything which is done with the money raised through the collection of Domund. There is also an invitation to collaborate with a contribution, according to each persons possibilities: The Catholic Church does not ask for a tenth of one’s earnings. The Church asks only once a year, to cooperate with the Holy Father in the collection of Mission Sunday (Domund) to help missionaries in their projects of human development that accompany the evangelization in poor and marginalized places.
