Monday, 10 October 2011

Miranda (Agenzia Fides) – His Exc. Mgr. Gustavo García Naranjo, Bishop of the Diocese of Guarenas, in the state of Miranda, Venezuela, celebrated a Mass of the sending of 150 missionary catechists from different parishes, at the opening of the pastoral activities of the whole area. "The Church has always had need of all to preach the Good News and live the news of Jesus Christ" said Mgr. Naranjo during the Mass celebrated on Sunday, October 2 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Copacabana in Miranda, opening the missionary Month.
According to information sent to Fides, the presence and sending of more than 150 catechists of the parishes, was determined by the fact that in the diocese of Guarenas a training scheme called "Catechesis routes" was prepared, with the specific purpose of promoting Christian life beyond the simple practice and reception of the Sacraments.
"Catechesis is an itinerary for people who later will participate in the activities of the parishes, so as to become engaged in the life of the Catholic community", the Bishop stressed in the homily. "The participants committed themselves to go to the parishes to organize and carry out programs of catechesis in the power of the Holy Spirit and with the aim of sowing the human and Christian values which society needs in Venezuela", concludes the note sent to Fides.
