Lima (Agenzia Fides) - 56% of the population over 18 years of age in four cities of Peru believe that women do not report incidents of violence to avoid retaliation against their children. A recent survey conducted in Lima, Piura, Ayacucho y Pucallpa, which involved 1407 men and women, showed that more women in Peru tolerate their husbands’ and partners’ violence to protect the children. The fear of denouncing the aggressors depends on their state of economic dependence, which would prevent them from protecting children from aggressive fathers. According to reports by the responsible of the movement 'Manuela Ramos' "many of the women who lodge complaints end up being killed. Therefore it is important that women do not become their husbands’ victims. "During a press conference she also said that the state centers which welcome these victims of violence are still insufficient to be able to protect all women who denounce the aggressors without fear of future claims. Although in Huamanga (62%) and Pucallpa (63%) the majority considers that the protection of children is the determining factor that hinders the complaints of aggressions, economic dependence (56%), low self-esteem (56%) and the hope that sooner or later their husbands change character (31%), are serious deterrents.
